The Warm Up: Oscars at JW3
ByOn Saturday night, Blake was down at the new postcode for Jewish life, JW3, for their Oscars Warm Up Evening. It was quite the suave and sophisticated affair, which also gave guests the opportunity to pose for a photograph in our pop-up studio with a REAL Oscar.
The statue in question belonged to double-Oscar winner Simon Chinn, who has claimed awards for documentaries ‘Man On Wire’ and ‘Searching for Sugar Man’. In fact, Simon was later part of a panel in front of a packed auditorium, chaired by enigmatic film critic Jason Solomons, who hilariously and very Jewishly described Simon as “the man for whom the word ‘noch’ was invented.” On the panel were also director Roger Michell (Notting Hill, Hyde Park On Hudson, Le Week-End) and film journalist and presenter Nicola Christie. As ever, JW3 continues to push the boundaries of programming and events within the Jewish community, and this event continued that trend.
After the Oscars, the whole word was talking about one photograph from the weekend, unfortunately it wasn’t the one below of JW3 Chief Executive Raymond Simonson picking up his Oscar for ‘Best Supporting Sideburns’ on Saturday night. Here are some of our favourite images from another wonderful evening at this new cultural hotspot…
