TLV IN LDN: ESTER RADA AT JW3
ByOn Sunday evening our team were back at cultural hub JW3, to photograph a fantastic evening as Ehtiopian-Israeli singer Ester Rada took to the stage. This is one of many incredible events we’ve been privileged to photograph at the new ‘Postcode for Jewish Life’, as official photography partners of JW3. Having already photographed Israeli musical giants Hadag Nachash and Coolooloosh on this soon-to-be-famous stage, now it was Ester Rada. Andy, one of our brilliant Associate Photographers, was in charge of documenting an evening of music, dancing and general all round brilliance.
Ester Rada’s cross-cultural sound is a deep reflection of the Israeli born Ethiopian’s heritage. Growing up in a religious Jewish family in more than modest conditions in Israel, gave Rada the drive to change her way of life and fulfill her dream of creating music. Critics describe her genre mixing sound as “gracefully combining Ethio-Jazz, Urban-funk, Neo-Soul and R&B, with mixed undertones of black grooves”. Ester just released her debut album, after releasing her acclaimed first self-written and composed solo EP called “Life Happens” produced by amazing Israeli producers Kuti (Kutiman/Thru-You) and Sabbo (Soulico), at the beginning of 2013. The album features songs in English and Amharic.
The opening act for the evening was none other than friend of Blake Ezra Photography, Ilana Lorraine, who also entertained the crowd with her beautiful sounds. Here are a few of our favourite images…
