A World Built on Kindness: Prince Charles at Yavneh College

By

Yesterday morning Blake was privileged to be an accredited member of the Royal Press yet again, as HRH Charles Prince of Wales visited the truly excellent Yavneh College in Borehamwood, in a visit orchestrated by inspirational Chief Rabbi Ephraim Mirvis.

This was no flying visit, as Prince Charles spent over an hour and a half at the school, meeting pupils of all ages and even getting involved in some of the activities taking place. The school’s motto is ‘A World Built on Kindness’ and this ethos makes it’s way into many of the day-to-day activities of the school. The first stop was to meet members of the 6th Form, who spoke of their passion for being role models in their community and wider society around them, they also chatted about the school having links with Holocaust education and trips to Poland, an issue supported by the Prince for many years.

Prince Charles took part in making balloons and toys for under-privileged children, packing food parcels for the needy. He was shown fresh cakes and Challah made in the food technology labs and took a real interest in innovative product design projects. HRH was introduced to the family of Yoni Jesner, who spoke about the work of the Yoni Jesner Foundation in developing young people to truly become the best they can be, as well as JLGB who performed a short piece of music in the Prince’s honour.

The visit ended in the Sports Hall, with the school song performed by the choir, a wonderful speech by Headmaster Mr. Lewis, some words of true inspiration from the Chief Rabbi, and then Prince Charles himself addressing the school with a spontaneous speech, starting off by admitting… “I had heard a little about this school from the Chief Rabbi. He was very insistent that I should come and see it. And, of course, I totally understand now, after coming here, what he was getting at because it is a truly remarkable place.” The Prince of Wales continued “A huge number of you will make a great contribution to the future of this country.”
